Country Pumpkin Barrydale 6 May 2014
Route 62 is not over rated. Other than one or two places I can think of briefly, it does not have empty gimmicks to draw people out of the cities to just leave them feeling vaguely disappointed. Route 62 is pure riding pleasure, spectacular scenery, good roads, and liberally sprinkled with interesting, very real people.
Dereck from Country Pumpkin is one of those characters well worth meeting, and his restaurant well worth visiting, not only because it is one of the Route 62 icons, but also because the food is great, the atmosphere friendly and the other patrons almost as colourful as Dereck himself. He is enerous and made us feel right at home the moment we arrived in Barrydale.
I just wish we had more time there. Thanks for everything Dereck. Great meeting you and hope to see you again soon.
This picture was a little special as it shows the highest number of BMWs we’ve had at any one time on the tour so far. A nice bunch as well, 1150, 1200, 600 and an old Funduro (my favourite on the tour) We put them all together in front of Country Pumpkin as an invitation to other BMW riders to go visit as well. It will be nice to see a picture with a greater variety of BMWs all together, maybe a few road bikes as well?
