I earned a living from soccer until the age of 23 when I broke my leg playing in an exhibition game, which some would say was a “lucky break” as soon afterwards I was offered a position in the sports sponsorship division of Holiday Inn hotel group in South Africa. After a few years joined the leading hotel group in Southern Sun who acquired Holiday Inn and after 6 years as the Group Director of Marketing woke up one morning and realized that there was more to life and had lost my passion for the corporate life and finally managed to “escape” the collar and tie brigade.

Whilst I was enjoying my sabbatical RJ Reynolds approached me in 1992 to start the Camel Trophy event in SA which necessitated me undergoing specialized training abroad. Our teams enjoyed huge success in the international events winning overall on 3 occasions but more importantly the spirit award every single year that we competed.

The skills I learnt equipped me to start the Continental Off-Road Academy 1997 which conducts courses teaching people the necessary 4×4 driving techniques and since then launched the Toyota Advanced Driving 2006 which covers all driving aspects namely Defensive, Hi-Performance, 4×4, Anti-Hijack etc.

I have three children Dylan 21 (final year at Stellenbosch University), Lauren 32 ( V.P. Marketing JP Morgan) and Travis 36 ( my business partner). Three grandchildren namely Jade 5, twins Max & Ty 2 years.

Got my first motorbike at the age of 13 and bar a few years have been enjoying the freedom of the open road and I am a committed Harley rider and by choice don’t belong to any specific MC but ride with many.
